i have a 30 feet wide by 150 feet long back yard that i want to put a putting green in my back yard. I think that if i use real grass it is going to be cheaper, but i am not sure what kind of grass to use for the rough and what grass to use for the green. Help….
If you live where it gets cold in the winter use Highland Bent Grass. You have to keep it mowed about 1/2" tall or it will tend to fall over and "crawl" so make sure you keep it short. In some seasons that means mowing it every morning.

Use a hi-bred burmuda for your putting green and it can also be used for your chipping area.
Just keep the lengths differing. Beautiful!

My bestfriend's hubby actually does this for a living. He goes around and puts in putting greens for private residences and makes a great living that way. i would look around online for some one who does this and call them and ask them what they recomend. I know my friend's hubby goes all over putting these in and I believe climate has alot to do with what srface he uses.

I actually built one for my father in law for his birthday a few years ago.
What you gotta do is start off with well drained soil, and of course a really good hybrid type of bermuda grass, and finally a good reel lawn mower.
I followed advice and designs like what this guy did, except I used a hybridized type of Bermuda grass.

The lawnmower is key to its maintenance, as you cant use a regular one, you haveto use a reel lawnmower, trust me on this. But hey, good luck man….
